Camberley Churches – The Baptist Church in the Frimley Road

This building, possibly quite overlooked by the traffic roaring away from the A30 just round the corner, was opened in 1807 as a chapel for Wesleyan Methodists and became a Baptist church in 1819.    This was when Yorktown was called New Town, Blackwater (from 1804-1813) and Camberley didn’t exist at all.  The pub nearby (The William IV) has recently been demolished and the once elegant Duke of York Hotel on the corner with the London Road is the next to have an appointment with the bulldozers.

What a shame Camberley can’t keep these few remnants of an earlier period in use?
